WOLF KIDS CURRICULUM SAMPLE
(9-14 years approx.)

‘W.O.L.F – Program Outline and Learning Outcomes (in brackets BC Curriculum)

SEMESTER 1: September 8 – December 15; Monday through Wednesday 10-3:30pm, with one 3 day camp) – Thursday is a Parent Day organized day.

 Sessions 1-9 – Wilderness Skills and Philosophy, Communication,  story telling and design,

  1. Wilderness Awareness- Advanced stalking and throwing stick challenge. (science – forces and simple machines, designing experiments)
  2. Shelter – Group winter shelter, design and build. ( social studies, aboriginal culture, Canadian culture, ancient civilizations – electricity)
  3. Water - why does all life need water? Explore natural water circulation and cleansing systems and the make up and properties of water. We will build water filtration devices from natural and man made materials and water boiling and other purification systems. Explore water borne diseases and water safety, drowning and dehydration. Liquids, solids and gasses. Properties of water. (science, diversity of life, weather, electricity,  chemistry, extreme environments, water systems on earth)
  4. Fire - the physics of fire and wood. Wood heat and smoke comparison charts and graphs. Advanced fire making techniques (science, electricity, light chemistry, aboriginal culture, Canada, ancient civilizations)
  5. Food – Farming and hunting – whole deer preparation and preservation, tools. Make flour from different plants and bread. Study of food groups and properties.
  6. Survival camp Fishing (science and social studies – aboriginal cultures, diversity of life, renewable and non renewable resources)
  7. Pottery and design project. Design in nature. Cultural design study (science and social studies, earths crust, chemistry)
  8. Glazing. Design project continues with pottery completion.
  9. Core routine story telling project, portfolio and presentation. (language arts, personal impromptu writing, literary writing, writing to communicate ideas and information)

    SEMESTER 2: February 2 to the end of June; Monday through Wednesday 10-3:30pm, Thursday is a Parent Day organized day.

    Sessions 10-21 Plants, Animals and Tracking, communication, storytelling and Design

  10. Medicines, Plants, Body systems, cordage challenge. Large Basket Backpack. (science, social studies, aboriginal Canadian and ancient cultures, cells and systems, human body, ecosystems)
  11. Ethno botany. Heritage seed and garden project. Wild farming.
  12. Stone Tools – arrowheads, bow making intensive. Moccasins (science, earths crust, forces and simple machines, materials and structure)
  13. Complete moccasins. Decorate. 
  14. Film Making and Photography. Tracking Advanced.
  15. Tracking slideshow/PowerPoint (language arts and fine arts, communication)
  16. Sit spot, bird language intensive. Sketching and painting project. (language arts and fine arts)
  17. Story telling, drama. Telling narrative story on film/stage. (language arts and fine arts)
  18. Writing film script/play. (language arts and fine arts)
  19. Core routines. Stories that teach younger ones.
  20. Journals and painting series (language arts and fine arts)
  21. Completion of Journals and Panting series. Presentation.
